Sometimes life throws you a curve, a really good one, and you just aren't quite sure if it is even real. That is how I felt about the RT Lodge Familiarization trip, something I am still in disbelief I got to experience. Tucked into lush, quiet woods in the quaint town of Maryville, this place is easily Eastern Tennessee's best kept wedding and lodging secret. I have visited the area several times, and was astonished to realize I never knew of the property until now. I have seriously been missing out! Lucky for me and several other wedding professionals, Alexandra Stockton and Katie Stinnett joined creative and logistic forces and brought us to the lodge for 3 days of pure bliss. Alex, event planner and designer extraordinaire, has a furious creative talent and touch that was used to create masterfully executed meals and events - one after the other for the entire retreat. Katie used her logistics superpowers to pull it all together without a hitch (or as it seemed to the guests - perfect). Chef Trevor Stockton's passion for food was vibrantly clear with every.single.bite. His gift with food was clearly evident as every plate was set down, everyone's eyes growing wider and waistlines a bit bigger. On our last night, a well deserved standing ovation was given for Trevor as he was brought onto the lawn after we had all devoured our last meal including the most tender steak, perfectly fried chicken and strawberry crumble with local berries and the freshest whipped cream I have ever had. Colby West created gorgeous florals for every lunch and dinner, hitting it out of the park for each setting. Aside from the fun we had at meal times, there were also activities including ceramic bowl crafting with McQueen Pottery, a cooking demonstration with Chef Trevor, natural soap making with Rainwater Farm and s'mores at the fire pit each night. Cafe lights and mountain breezes danced around and topped off the magic mood. As I said, unreal.
Whether for your wedding or a mountain getaway, you just need to go find out for yourself how amazing this place and its staff really are. I can never say enough good things, and will forever be thankful for my time there. I am already trying to find a way to go back!
I am so glad they welcomed me bringing my camera along. When I could pull myself away from the fun and fellowship I was on cloud 9 shooting some film! Excited to share with you in this post as well as PART 2.
