Rejoicing in marriage | Stone Mountain Session

Thank you to MAGNOLIA ROUGE for featuring this session! Click to view.

Marriage is many things. It is comfort, it is sharing, it is compromise and understanding. Warm, joyful and even a little bit testing at times. Maybe even daily? She says winking. I think recognizing all of the hard parts alongside benefits is always healthy, so long as you use that as a tool in the learning process. But focusing on the positive is perhaps the greatest tool we possess in cultivating valuable relationships. Reason number one that I was so happy to document this married pair as they simply carved out time to focus on who they are today, together - on camera.

We bounced around Stone Mountain park, close to where Taylor and Kurt both grew up (the are high school sweethearts!) and I snapped away as the two shared jokes and sweet kisses. The ease in which they fall into one another in laughter and embrace speaks volumes, so fun to see.

A word from Taylor (wedding planner extraordinaire!)"Marriage and growth between a husband and wife is something I believe should be celebrated both often and well. While we may still be considered "newlyweds" after two and a half short years of marriage, I love to look back at photos together and reminisce on the changes and development in our relationship since our wedding day. Capturing each season together creates tangible memories for us as a couple and we value that as a token of sharing and reflection. Enriching our marriage by spending quality time together truly is my greatest joy and I love to build him up and encourage him in every day life. North Georgia Mountain Wedding | Heather & John

Majority of the time, wedding days have a similar flow, tone and focus.  With so many people involved, bases to cover and traditions to check off, it is inevitable that a common rhythm is found throughout each wedding I capture.

But this day was different.

All Heather and John really wanted was a family centered day. This event would officially meld two families into one, and that is where the focus would be weighted. No fussy 'musts', no overtly posed portraits - everything just unfolded naturally as this family shared a special day together. All of their precious children - Heather's three and John's sweet pair - served as the most excited and proud bridal party my eyes have seen. You could feel the elation from every single child as they put on their special clothes, makeup and flowers. Opting out of a traditional first look, Heather and John mingled harmoniously during preparation and portraits. This bride and groom just rolled along casually as the day went by, relishing in the activity with an ease and clear love for each other. Hugs and giggles were plentiful!

Personal vows and lots of tears rang bold during the ceremony while the kids watched on with excitement as their parent's committed to serving one another as well as their 'new' family. I know my heart grew a little as I snapped these moments.

Ginny Early designed a charming reception, complete with an intimate table set perfectly for family and close friends. She curated the softest blue and oatmeal table linens by La Tavola to provide a soft contrast to the greenery and sage candlelight of the tabletop. Ginny also adorned the fireplace wildly with a variety of greens and a sprinkling of Icelandic poppies, carrying the playful feel of the bouquets into the dinner space.

Warmth - a collected table | Atlanta floral design, catering

No matter the season, life is well spent when gathered around a table of good food and pretty flowers.  I don't think anyone would deny that fact!  So when my talented friend and floral designer Rebekah of Forage & Fleur asked me to photograph a gathering filled with blooms and bites by Atlanta eatery Sun In My Belly - it was a yes from the word go. These people know how to craft a seriously pleasing guest experience through aesthetics and sensory delights.

In preparation for their curated holiday table experience, Rebekah and Sun In My Belly set a beautiful table topped with savory food and textural florals.  Finished with simple decor including mixed metals. soft mauve linens and ever so classic candle light this table is all about creating interest without trying too hard.  What really mattered here was sharing an experience with guests, and believe it or not if you have the foundation of a well cooked meal and carefully selected stems it does not take much beyond that.  Well, maybe a glass of rose or two can also lend a hand ;)
